Our Skagerak Georg Jubilee Stool is designed as a celebration of Skagerak’s 40th anniversary. A beautiful mix of Nordic sensuality and Japanese minimalism. The jubilee version revives this original expression of the Georg stool in a novel way, equipped with a rare cushion made of aniline leather from a Swedish tannery called Tärnsjö. The cushion is attached with a dainty braided leather strap, while the stool itself is created in untreated oak, known for its clear, light grains and sturdiness.

CARE

Proper usage and maintenance is vital for getting the most out of the valuable resources we have. Our designs are made to last for generations, but just like everything else, they need a little care to get there.

Oak

Origin
Oak grows in most temperate zones. The Skagerak oak comes from European forests and is either 100% FSC certified or FSC mix certified, supporting sustainable forest management. The selection of the wood is extremely careful and all processing is by hand, so that only the best and most durable pieces of wood are used in production.

Oak is a sturdy and hard wearing type of wood containing natural tannins that will protect against bacterial growth. Combined with its light, elegant colour and well-defined grains, this makes oak wood safe choice for high-quality interior.

Cleaning & Maintenance
The wood comes with no finish. If you choose not to treat it with soap or oil, use a suitable cleaning agent for wood.

As the wood is untreated it may be affected by grease and colorants. For this reason, we recommend saturating the wood with soap or a suitable furniture oil to make it more resistant. If you wish to use soap or oil, use a suitable product. Be aware that the wood will change colour when applying soap or oil.

Tärnsjö leather

Why
The Swedish Tärnsjö tannery has more than 140 years of experience in the art and craft of leather. To colour their products, they use a millennium-old method of vegetable tanning which respects the environment and ensures the development of a unique patina over time. The leather used for this cushion is Tärnsjö’s thinnest and softest, and it has kept its natural appearance through aniline colouring where no colour was added in the finishing process. It has a rich and shifting colour texture and genuine leather feel.

Cleaning & Maintenance
Leather is a living material, and if exposed to direct sunlight, the colour will darken gradually. Likewise, exposure to hot or dry air for a longer time can dry out the leather if it is not regularly conditioned.

To freshen up the leather once in a while, we suggest this 4-step cleaning method:
1. Use a clean natural sponge or soft cloth to remove any dust.
2. 2 dl soap flakes for leather is mixed with a little water and whipped until it is dissolved.
3. Use the foam from the mix to carefully wash the leather with a firmly wrung cloth.
4. Use a soft dry cloth to dry off the leather surface.

Fibre Wadding

Fibre Wadding is made of carded thin polyester fibres that contain air in between the fibres. The entrapped air creates the ability to insulate and to provide a soft comfort feeling in the cushion.

Maintenance
In order to keep the fibres and cushion full of air, be sure to shake the cushion occasionally.

ABOUT

Skagerak is a family-owned company established in 1976 in Denmark. Our primary focus has always been on producing quality furniture designed to last for generations. As a Danish business, we are deeply rooted in Scandinavian heritage and craftmanship balancing the contracts between classical virtues and modern daily life. We believe in sustainable and straightforward beauty and work with skilled international designers that help us achieve that goal. Sustainability runs deep in our veins - in materials, production and the way we treat partners and employees, which is why we have been proud members of the UN Global Compact Act since 2010, B Corp since 2017 and FSCTM-certified since 2001. The name Skagerak refers to our northern location and to the strait 'Skagerrak' that connects Denmark to its Nordic neighbours - a strait that has been crucial in developing the region. Skagerak is an international brand that creates a functional and long-lasting design, and one of our most significant ambitions is to take responsibility and stay curious.
